How Are You Preparing for This Year’s Sailing Season and ORC Championships?

In January, summer may still feel far away, but the start of the sailing season is just three months away.

At Kalev Yacht Club’s ORC-themed discussion evening on January 22, Estonian ORC measurers Andrus Aarna and Karl Hannes Tagu provided insights into the ORC rating system. Ari Peltomäki from the Finnish Offshore Association gave an overview of Finnish-Estonian cross-Gulf collaboration, sailing opportunities, and this year’s major events.

Andrus Aarna shared updates on the 2024 and 2025 ORC rule changes, introduced various ORC scoring options—including the innovative Weather Routing Scoring—highlighted the WS Offshore Special Regulations, and reviewed the safety equipment required for ORC title championships.

Ari Peltomäki encouraged Estonian sailors to participate in the ORC Double-Handed European Championship, which takes place just before the Muhu Väina Regatta in early July. He also discussed Finland’s training programs and workshops designed to help sailors prepare for the ORC DH Europeans.

And now is the time to register - take advantage of the early entry fee:

April 1: Early Bird Entry Fee deadline for the ORC Worlds 2025 in Tallinn

May 1: Early Bird Entry Fee deadline for the ORC DH Europeans 2025 in Helsinki
